The Department of English Language and Literature at Renaissance College offers exciting and challenging graduate and postgraduate studies in English in all principal areas from the medieval period to the 21st century. Students encounter a mix of traditional and innovative subjects and approaches, ranging from the most famous names in English literature to newer looks at various aspects of popular culture. The Department specializes in a wide variety of subjects, including Classic and Modern Poetry, Drama, Novel, Prose, Greek Literature, American Literature, Contemporary Ages, Critical Theory, Cultural Studies, Scholarly Editing, and Literary History. Besides this, students are offered certain internationally recognized English Language courses like Linguistics, IELTS, TOEFL (For information on English Language Courses see the relevant brochure). Studies in Literature and Language are offered both at Graduate and Postgraduate levels. Through the writing of analytical and research essays, students acquire many of the skills in high demand in business, government, and the professions: how to research effectively, to organize and assemble materials, to define problems and propose solutions, to make oral presentations and use persuasive rhetoric. A degree in English is a stepping-stone to further professional training in journalism, library sciences, law, social work, CSS, PCS exams and so on. The teaching profession is one of the most popular choices for students of English Literature and Language.
