How do I apply?
Many students worry about the prospect of interviews, but there is no reason to be apprehensive. Interviews should be regarded as a subject-specific discussion with a person who could be your future college tutor, who wants to explore your understanding of and commitment to your chosen degree subject. Tutors will want to see you do your best and will want you to be yourself and have confidence in your abilities. Interviewers are not trying to make you feel ignorant or to catch you out. They want to know how well you can explain what you do know, and whether you can think your way through a new problem. How you think is more important than what you know. You should be prepared to show some background knowledge of your subject, though you will not be expected to have any detailed or technical knowledge. You must have good English. You may be asked what role your subject plays in society and how you came to be interested in it. In some subjects you may be given some material immediately before the interview - concentrate on reading it very carefully rather than on guessing what the questions might be. If you are asked a factual question about which you know nothing or which you haven't considered before, don't panic. You can say honestly that you haven't covered that topic or that you haven't read much about that.
